In the spotlightmy favorite embossing folders

This week ‘dry embossing’ is featured as our spotlight technique. On Eveline and Sandra‘s blog you can see some wonderful examples. The most know dry embossing technique is the one using an embossing folder. Stampin’ Up! offers a wide array, my favorites are the sparkle, petal burst and (since a short while) the festive embossing folders.

dry embossing with dies

But do you know that you can also emboss with dies? To Ensure that your dies aren’t cutting through the paper, you use a silicon mat. You take the Big Shot, get an acrylic plate, on it you put the silicon mat, the paper with the die and the second acrylic plate. You put this sandwich through the Big Shot. Because of the silicon mat your die will not cut through the paper, but it will leave an impression in the paper.

For this card I used the bumblebee from the Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits Dies. A brand new die set from the upcoming spring/summer catalog that will go live on January 4th, ’17.

To make the embossed bumblebee pop on the card, I used the water color stain from the Perpetual Birthday Calender stamp set. I kept the colors naturel with Soft Suede, a color I hardly use, and Delightful Dijon, my favorite color. The sentiment comes from the Dragonfly Dream stamp set, also from the new catalog. The card is 10 x 10 cm/ 4 x 4 inches and I’m already smitten with this little bumblebee 🙂
